A monogram is a very popular type of logo. There are many techniques to create a monogram logo, and they all basically consist of combining letters together to form a logo or symbol. Some of the world’s most famous logos are monograms. For example, the famous Louis Vuitton (1854) logo is a monogram of an italic “L” and a “V”. Another example is also fashion related, the famous Chanel (1909) logo is a monogram of two “C” letter crossing each other.

But monograms did not start with fashion, they were first used in coins. Some of the first monograms date back to 350 BC in Ancient Greek cities. Monograms were also used as royal symbols for names of monarchs, such royal monograms were used by Great Brittian, Russia, Sweden and Germany. Some monograms were also used as political resistance symbols in wartimes. During World War II, Polish protestors used a “PW” monogram as a resistance symbol famously known as “The Anchor”.

Book Club: The Perks of Being A Wallflower

Yesterday, my awesome friend Dania and I decided to start a two-person book club! We both wanted to read more often, so we thought starting a small (more like tiny) book club to help motivate us to read awesome books.The first book we chose is The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.

I was first introduced to the book after I watched the movie starring Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller. Which kind of ruined the book, it’s ending anyways. But I still fell in love with the book right away. There’s just so much depth in it that you don’t really recognize at first. But after reading a couple more letters, you’ll notice how truly profound the book really is. The other two main characters are the older friends he meets in his school’s football games; Patrick and Sam (step-siblings). Other characters include his family members, his brief “Girlfriend” Mary-Elizabeth, Patrick’s “close” friend Brad and Sam’s older boyfriend Craig.

The novel has a lot of sadness in it, but it also has some breathe-taking moments like the car ride through the tunnel when Charlie felt “INFINITE”. A very well-written line if I do say so myself. The novel also has a truly magnificent selection of music, movies and book references which I thought was beautiful.

Video: SimCity Introduction – Part 1

I’ve uploaded the first episode of SimCity Introduction, a mini-series I intend on uploading every Monday. The series will introduce the interface elements; it will explain what all the buttons do and the different settings you can have!

This first episode is about the main interface, where you can “Resume”, “Create” or “Join” a game or region. It also discusses what city resources mean, what modes you can play in (Sandbox and default), how to create a public region with multiplayers and much more. Make sure you check out the video, and if there’s anything you need me to talk about in later episodes, feel free to let me know through a comment or email!

Next monday, I’ll upload the second episode of the mini-series and it will discuss the in-game city interface and perhaps the in-game region interface as well.

Middle East Film & Comic Con – 2013

The Middle East Film & Comic Con, or MEFCC, was held on the 5th and 6th of April. It is a film and comic convention where geeks and superhero fans can feel at home. Unlike the real world, in this convention, the geekier you are, the more popular you are. If you came dresses up as your favorite game or movie character, people will want to take photos with you. You’ll feel like a celebrity!

It wasn’t as big as the Comic Con they have in the US, but I think it was a great start. We often feel left out of awesome events like that here in the Middle East. So I truly feel this was a great convention to have in Dubai. Hopefully, they’ll keep working harder and harder on it so it get bigger and bigger every year. They did have a few celebrities though; Alan Tudyk from Firefly, Sean Astin from The Lord of The Rings, Warwick Davis from Star Wars & Harry Potter, Ioan Gruffudd from Fantastic Four and a little more.

There were a few workshops as well as an Artist Alley, which I thought was the best part of it all. I ended up buying a whole bunch of stuff; 2 paintings, 3 posters, 2 New Eras and even more awesome crap! OK. I’ll stop talking now. Here are some awesome photos I took of the weekend event.
